Xbox Gold subscribers can download and play Mortal Kombat X for free on Xbox One, but only for a limited time.

It’s part of the Microsoft Xbox Free Play Days promotion which offers Xbox Live Gold subscribers access to triple-A games for nothing.

Xbox One fans in the UK can play the brutal fighting game until Monday March 11 at 7.59am, after which it will disappear from their digital library.

A blog post from Microsoft says: “Select a character that fits your strategy and fighting style and jump into this fighting franchise with Free Play Days!

“Xbox Live Gold members can immerse themselves in the most cinematic and brutal Kombat experience yet with Mortal Kombat X.

“The Free Play Days event begins Thursday, March 7 at 12:01 a.m. PT and runs through to Sunday, March 10 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

“You can find and install the game here.

“To download on console, click on the Gold member area on the home dashboard on your Xbox One.

“The game is also available for purchase so you can continue playing while keeping your Gamerscore and achievements earned in-game during the event.”

If you’re not an Xbox Live Gold subscriber then don’t worry, you can still download a free Xbox One game this weekend.

Crackdown 2 has been added to the Xbox One backwards compatible list, and now only that it’s free to download right now.

Crackdown 2 was released on the Xbox 360 back in 2010 and was developed by Scottish studio Ruffian Games.

It holds an impressive 83 per cent Metacritic rating based on 75 reviews.
