Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight and I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host this week! While many would have assumed this week would be quieter than previous ones, the opposite was true. With the launch of Mortal Kombat 11 and a steady supply of video content, the community was as busy as if we were in the middle of the Winter gaming onslaught! Hopefully the forums and wiki this week were as fun for you as they were for me! So, without further ado, let’s jump into the site related housekeeping!
- If you liked the Giantbomb Community Endurance Run, you will love Waypoint’s Save Point community fundraiser running from 05/02/19 – 05/05/19! Austin Walker and team are going to put on a great show for a great cause: Trans Lifeline!
- Are you still having issues with the Giant Bomb Newsletter? A few of you commented last week you were having issues, so feel free to drop a comment here and I’ll see if I can direct you to the necessary support to get hooked up! Here’s a link to the guide on how to set you account to get the newsletter in case you missed it last week.
Clips Of The Week
This week we are doing things slightly different with the video section of the Spotlight. This week, I’ll be showcasing some of the archives and highlights from the Giant Bomb Community Endurance Run from three weeks ago. If you were a participant in this event and I somehow missed you, feel free to drop a comment with a link to your archive and I will happily include it next week. For those who are still interested in donating, here’s a link to the team page.

As mentioned earlier, Mortal Kombat 11 is the big video game release of the week. Therefore, what are your impressions of its gameplay changes? Have you enjoyed the new customization options? What have been your experiences with the netcode? Does it compare favorably or negative to Mortal Kombat X or Mortal Kombat?
Speaking of Mortal Kombat 11, what are your impressions of NetherRealm Studios‘ promises to “fix” complaints about the in-game economy? What do you think are the most significant issues with the game?
We have an interesting forum thread debating if the contents in Mortal Kombat 11’s Krypt count as “lootboxes.” What do you think? Share your stance in our community thread using the link below!
Okay everyone, this is a disclaimer every Giant Bomb user needs to be aware of from this point forward. If you absolutely want to talk about Endgame spoilers, here’s a link to our community spoiler discussion thread.
Here’s our community discussion debating the challenge Epic’s Tim Sweeney directed at Steam. The driving question is if this an example of “healthy competition,” or the dawn of a new “platform wars.”
Here’s a fun poll for anyone who owns a Nintendo Switch! What are the go-to JRPGs for the platform? Here are the options on the survey, and feel free to discuss your pick.
Did any of you read Polygon’s report on Epic Games‘ use of “perma-crunch” following the success of Fortnite? What’s your reaction to the news? Is this news another rallying cry for unionization in game development?
Have any of you picked up Katana Zero? If you did, are you playing the Switch or PC release? Have you enjoyed playing the neon-drenched samurai action game from Askiisoft?
Here’s a problem I know everyone has experienced, but probably not thought about all that much. How do you handle different console ports having completely different button layouts for the same gameplay inputs? The example provided by the first post involve Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! but there are many more examples of this modern gaming annoyance.
Giant Bomb user JonathanTrojan makes their user-created list debut with a fun annotation of their all-time fifteen favorite games. Give it a read and think about which games would top your list!
guip1408 uses one of their lists this week to highlight what they think are the ten best uses of technical graphics from the fourth generation of consoles (i.e., SNES, Genesis, ect).
