Overwatch developer Blizzard has announced the release date for its next hero character.
The newest Overwatch character is a support-class medic named Baptiste.
And the good news is that there’s not long to wait before he’s widely available to all players.
As announced earlier this week, Baptiste has a March 19 release date on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Big Overwatch content updates typically drop at around 6pm UK time, so the countdown begins now.
Of course, there is a way you can play Baptiste ahead of his March 19 release date.
PC owners can download the Public Test Region (PTR) and try out Baptiste ahead of the official launch.
The PTR is where Blizzard tests its newest creations and incoming balance updates ahead of release.
With feedback from fans, the developer can make adjustments before new maps and heroes launch to the wider public.
Perhaps Baptiste will receive some tweaks alongside a bumper game update on March 19.
Baptiste is described as a combat medic who wields an assortment of experimental devices.
“Baptiste’s Biotic Launcher fires a three-round-burst that rewards accuracy and recoil control with significant damage output,” Blizzard explains. “His alternate fire lobs grenades that heal allies near the point of impact.
“With Regenerative Burst, Baptiste activates an intense surge that heals himself and nearby allies over time. When danger is near, Baptiste can toss out his Immortality Field to prevent allies from dying.
“Baptiste moves around the battlefield with Exo Boots, jumping over obstacles and clearing distances that would stop other heroes. Baptiste deploys his Amplification Matrix as his ultimate, which doubles the damage and healing effects of friendly projectiles.”
