A free trial for Blackout Mode is coming to Black Ops 4 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
News of Activision’s plans were announced today by Treyarch, who also hinted at new content and updates coming to all platforms very soon.
The COD Black Ops 4 update going live on PS4 and Xbox One today includes content that won’t be available until a later date.
One example is a new limited time mode for Call of Duty Blackout, which is being primed for launch and makes big changes to how squad play works.
“The first of our newest limited-time modes going live in Blackout later this week with “Down But Not Out”, a hectic new playlist where the rest of your squad redeploys each time the circle collapses, as long as at least one of you survives. Keep an eye out for more info later this week,” a message in today’s Black Ops 4 patch notes reveal.
It certainly sounds different and will hopefully have a release date confirmed for it soon.
This will follow on from today’s changes to Blackout Mode, including a new multi-row grid looting interface that will help speed up looting enemies on PS4 and Xbox One.
Treyarch has also reduced the number of Concussion grenades in an inventory stack to 1 to help reduce the frequency of Concussions in the field.
This Thursday through Jan. 24, everyone can play Blackout for absolutely free, it was confirmed today by the development team.
A new Black Ops 4 update is being primed for release “very soon” according to Treyarch, which looks set to add more content to the game.
Call of Duty 1.12 has been confirmed as being in the works and could quickly follow today’s 1.11 update.
This could be another update that focuses on expanding the Zombies mode, which saw a lot of tweaks today.
Treyarch is expected to share more news on these upcoming updates later today in a new blogpost.
The new Gauntlets & Elixirs added to Zombies Mode today are currently only available on PS4 but will be expanded to Xbox One and PC next week.
A breakdown of what the new Zombies experience is can be found below:
“Gauntlets in Black Ops 4 Zombies are curated 30-round challenges with unique rules for each round, kicking off with “Unsinkable” in Voyage of Despair. Players will receive Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals and special tier-based rewards upon completing rounds 10, 20, and 30, as well as a unique reward (and bragging rights) for completing round 30 without failing a round.
“Players will also earn bonus Nebulium Plasma rewards when reaching each new milestone for the first time, so it pays to give every Gauntlet run your best shot.
“Rules can vary wildly round-to-round, ranging from weapon restrictions and time limitations to area defense challenges with dangerous enemy modifiers, and everything in-between. If you and your crew fail to complete a round as instructed, you’ll earn a Strike.
“If you receive three Strikes, it’s game over and you’ll have to start from round 1 again. While getting to round 10 will prove challenging for casual players, completing all 30 rounds will test even the most seasoned Zombies veterans… and only the best of the best will emerge victorious with no downs or Strikes.
“Because we’ve also designed Gauntlets to be endlessly replayable in a competitive setting, the rules for each of the 30 rounds are permanently set and all Gauntlet matches are timed, so we expect to see some incredible speed runs from the community long after you’ve achieved your first Gold medal!
“Unsinkable” in Voyage of Despair is just the first of many Gauntlets to come in 2019, each with their own set of all-new challenges to master. Let us know what you think when this new feature launches next week on PS4. We’ll also have more details to share on our three new Epic Elixirs, existing Elixir balance updates, and some additional surprises on 115 Day.”
