A re-release of the original storytelling superhero roleplaying, where players take on the roles of heroes and authors of the comic.
Game Geeks News are proud to bring you our 50th promotion for another amazing project currently running on kickstarter. Post World Games Jim Pinto is a 20-year veteran of the gaming industry, having written roleplaying games, board games, card games, a novel, comic books, and even screenplays. He’s even won awards for writing, graphic design, art direction, and one dog show. His career includes roles in art, design, production, publishing, and writing, covering nearly every aspect of game design.

Good Guys Finish Last is a 15-day quick starter. The game is already done and in layout. Jim is looking to order a few more pieces of art and get this game into people’s hands almost immediately. This is the first licensed game from Post World Games. The text is from the original authors and reflects their values of how storytelling games should be made. It is, in this publisher’s opinion, the first story game, preceding the movement by a full decade.

Back in 1991, Jim played in his first-ever Better Games™ session of Good Guys Finished Last. It quickly became his favourite game for a long time and never bothered playing any other superhero game after that. Jim would run it continually at a local con and ran an extensive campaign for his local gaming group.
A little over a year ago, Jim approached the original designers and asked if he could publish it for a new generation of players.
And as you can see, they are doing just that.
Good Guys doesn’t play like any other superhero game. The players take on the roles of characters inside the story as well as the authors of the comic, while the game master is both the arbiter of events and the publisher of the comic.

There isn’t a list of 100 powers to choose from either. Good Guys uses a 2d8 dice system, along with a unique power grid that matches two traits together to form the core value of a character’s power. This value provides a game mechanic to base the power upon, but fleshing out the power is the player’s job. Ultimately, two players can have the same final combined trait value but define how they work completely differently. Ultimately, what the power looks like is up to the players.
Update #1 goes into deeper detail about how this works.
Players have a greater deal of agency in Good Guys Finish Last, as well. By taking on the roles of the authors as well as the characters, the players add to the story canon in ways they can’t in more traditional play.
Clocking in at over 120 pages, this edition of the game, modernizes the graphic design and presentation of the rules, along with dozens of new pieces of art.

Art and graphic design are finished. Editing is in progress, but shouldn’t take long to complete. What this means is that as soon as the Kickstarter is over, PDFs go out, with books shipping pretty quickly after that. This is a one-man operation, so sometimes it takes a few days for books to process, so Jim cannot give firm deadlines on anything. But rest assured, you’re getting your game.
Backers of the print copy will receive a unique cover for Good Guys, unavailable to the general public.

Backing of this project is simple. You can either get the PDF or the PDF and the book. There are no additional steps and shipping is paid in advance. No handing your data off to a third party with questionable internet security.
If you’d like, there is one unique $251 tier, which allows you to receive the campaign notes from 1995. Jim can’t believe he still has them. And backers who are interested in playing the game with Jim on Discord are welcome to contact him. For an additional contribution, Jim will teach your group how to play Good Guys Finish Last.

Projects like this — from companies Jim’s size — only succeed when they go above and beyond the minimum funding level. He tries to keep prices low, so people can get their games. And Jim is always happy to spread the love to backers when they exceed expectations. At $5000, and every $2500 thereafter, Jim will send out additional free PDF games from his online store. In addition, if they hit $10,000, he will add an adventure PDF to the pile for backers. Beyond that, a certain percentage of funds go back into the book in the form of additional art. Regardless, regular backers of my projects know that he tends to be very generous with rewards to backers once the project completes. Jim will be sure to send out additional PDFs once everything is done.
Risks and Challenges:
This game is finished. Layout is 95% complete. You are backing a long, out-of-print project and restoring it to the gaming industry in an all-new format.
